Behind the Scenes - Creating a Wooden Background with a Placemat

 
 

Sometimes things aren't always as they appear.  Take the following images for example.  The background looks like timber, but it might surprise you to learn it is a placemat.

This image was taken in the same spot, except the mat was turned on an angle with the camera directed more towards the light.  I love how you can get two different looks with the same background.
